Amalgam- An alloy of mercury mixed with another metal that is solid or liquid at room temperature according to the proportion of mercury present and is used especially in making tooth cements. (for tooth porcelain) Tooth consists of at least 3 parts: 1. Enamel- A usually opaque vitreous composition applied by fusion to the surface of metal, glass, or pottery. A cosmetic intended to give a smooth or glossy appearance on a tooth. Mottled Enamel- Spotted tooth enamel caused by drinking water containing excessive fluorides during the time the teeth are calcifying. Porcelain Enamel- A fired-on opaque glassy coating on metal (as steel). 2. Dentin- A calcareous material (resembling calcite or calcium carbonate especially in hardness, consisting of or containing calcium carbonate, growing on limestone or in soil impregnated with lime) similar to but harder and denser than bone that composes the principal mass of a tooth. 3. Pulp- The soft sensitive tissue that fills the central cavity of a tooth. Tooth's central nervous system is located there. (nerves)
