CHESS & COMPUTERS, ILLEGAL QUALIFICIATIONS, ETC... I have to dispute Jeff Sonas' statement about people tiring after 6 games... they are just afraid to loose and play bad. The opening library from older computers he said can not equal to the news ones... crap again... think... The more openings the more chances for huge loop holes a human can explore or a machine... My program has over 150 000 openings but all are pretty safe and more or less prooven, you see even if you give the copy of my program to top players... it will take them 100 years just to find loop holes for all the openings (if there are any) and the program is set up to play a different style every game, i will not change my opening book, except for the 0000, big castle. Remeber Demember 1994 when Fritz beat many GM's on P-90 ? That was the fastest processor at those times... I was only hoping and dreaming when will 1ghz come out... May be in 20 years ? Well that was 3 years ago... Now we have close to 5ghz... (but watch out... the clock may not be really 5ghz compared to other processors, different companies who make processors have different cores, real time speed than it really is... and many other functions come into play...) and I thought to myself, when I get to 1ghz I can play the best of them... I can show off... But alas, as you can see just because computers are so damn good that any home computer these days can beat almost any player, it does not mean crap... Why ? Well, the players will not play if you dont give those "honorable people with big valued company representation" and of course lots of dough and free media exposure. (And who is interested in chess ? Who will hear a story about chess and try to interview you on CNN or those stinking late shows... There is no argument to convince those morons what they are missing... to them it's the image of a boring game where two old dudes sit for 8 hours and move little pieces on the board) and then something... I am glad last year Kramnik drew that computer, he did not deserve crap, (he and his co-called principles) he received too mnay freedoms and privilages. (not to mention the dough that could have been used for matches against other players who can match their wits better against computers. At least some kiddie charity received the money for something) Kramnik had the program frozen in advance, lots of free time for analyzing the game after 60 moves and a days of rest... not to mention unfair qualifiers for the computers by the dead Braingames organization... I will not even go into that... I tried to get my program to play but THE ENTRY FEE WAS at least 5000$, they should be glad programmers are giving their programs (even though many programmers are cheap and dont know much about life) to fight for the top honor... NOT ONLY THAT... ORIGINAL PROGRAMMERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT QUALIFIER... DURING THE 2001 COMPUTER BRAINGAMES QUALIFIER JUNIOR WAS LEADING 5-0, THEN MACHINES WERE CHANGED AND FRITZ WON... A PROGRAMMER SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK ANOTHER PROGRAMMER IF HE AGREES TO A DRAW, NONE OF THAT WAS EVER ALLOWED (they were not even present in that country when the computer qualifer took place) AND THE WORSE THING ABOUT IS THAT ONLY COMPUTERS WITH MULTI PROCESSORS WERE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. AT THAT TIME ONLY JUNIOR AND FRITZ WERE ABLE TO DO IT AND CHESSBASE HAD THE MONEY FOR IT AND TIME... (THAT'S ALL THEY DO ANYWAYS, SCREW AROUND CHESS AND SILLY CHESS-STORIES, OK, SOMETIMES THEY HAVE SOMETHING GOOD TOO...) ONLY FEW DAYS LATER WHEN THE MATCH STARTED TIGER VERSION WITH MULTI PROCESSORS WAS AVAILABLE... BUT NO, IT WAS NEVER GIVEN A CHANCE, SAME GOES FOR THE SHREDDER AND MANY OTHER PROGRAMS... (BY THE WAY MY PROGRAM USES ONE ENGINE AND IT WORKS BOTH ON DOS AND WINDOWS AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT) I THINK THERE IS A CONSPIRACY HERE... ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO PUT SOME SILLY RUMORS TO REST FOR GOOD... THE STUPID CONTROVERSY ABOUT THE ALLEGED HUMAN ASSISTANCE IN GAME 2 WON BY DEEP BLUE AGAINST KASPAROV IN 1997... THE CONTROVERSY IS AROUND A CERTAIN DECIDING MOVE. A MOVE THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A MACHINE, A MOVE THAT IGNORED MATERIAL ADVANTAGE, IS IT POSSIBLE DEEP BLUE SAW ALL THE MOVES TO THE END ? THE COMPUTER THOUGHT FOR 15 MINUTES... MAY BE HE SENSED SOMETHING... AFTER ALL 200 MILLION MOVES PER SECOND STANDS FOR SOMETHING... I DOUBT THERE WAS ANY HUMAN INTERFERENCE... NOBODY MADE A MOVE FOR THE COMPUTER... HOWEVER ONE THING MAY BE HAPPENED... WHEN GM BENJAMIN SAW THE MOVE HE PROBABLY TOLD THE PROGRAMMERS TO INCREASE THE THINKING TIME FROM 3 MINS TO 15 MINS SO THE COMPUTER CAN SEARCH ALL THE WAY TO THE ALMOST INFINITE AND IT'S A GOOD THING IT HAPPENED. THAT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW OR RULES, A PROGRAMMER CAN CHANGE THINKING TIME, AS LONG AS HE DOES NOT LOOSE ON TIME... AND THAT WAS A TOUGH POSITION..... The other theory is... that yea, indeed, computers can sense something is fishy and they do think longer, dont forget that later on in the game they think faster to fit the allocated time. It happens. After all, that is a must in chess in certain positions. Remember Kramnik thinking 42 minutes before he sacked his bishop for a knight last year... and he lost, Bh4 he did not see that defanding move, computer defanded. Well, I hope I shed some light on these important issues and game some people valuable lessons they will never forget. The Internation chess computer community must know... Braingames executives and their "computer geniuses" did not do much justice to the computer qualifications in 2001. I suggested the match in the first place after Kasparov-Kramnik championship match and what thanks have I reveived ? Well, I did receive something though... Criticism, criticism and more bad mouthing. Great. THE PROGRAMMERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTROL THEIR MACHINES, ONLY MULTI PROCESSOR MACHINES WERE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE... GIVE ME A BREAK... THAT'S LUNACY. NOT ONLY THAT... A DIFFERENT COMPUTER HAS BEEN GIVEN TO JUNIOR AFTER IT LOST 5 IN A ROW... THEN IT STARTED TO PLAY BETTER AND WIN THE 40 GAMES MATCH. THE MATCH WAS 90/40 INSTEAD OF 120/40, NO PROGRAMMER WAS ON HAND TO ACCEPT OR REFUSE A DRAW OFFER OR EVEN GIVE AN OFFER... AND THEN SOME... SO THIS BRINGS A VALID POINT... ONLY PEOPLE WITH DOUGH AND REPRESENTATION WILL BE ABLE TO SPONSOR MATCHES AND TOURNAMENTS ANY WAY THEY WANT IT, LIKE IT, SEE IT. I STILL THINK COMPUTERS ARE FAR FROM BEING THE BEST. I BELIEVE WELL ADJUSTED HUMANS, HUMANS WHO ARE READY FOR BATTLES AND ARE NOT AFRAID TO PLAY SOME REAL CHESS WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AGAINST THE MACHINES.
