The fight code is the fight number (which you can see at the top of any fight page) contained within "fight" code tags, like this: 12345 The fight code will automatically insert the names of the boxers, result, location, and date. You can then add other text and images. You can get other instructions and help here. Try entering the fight code in this page you just worked on. --Ric 16:54, 7 June 2007 (CDT) Right, but how do i separate, look at first sentence, really too long. But there are mistakes to it, when I tried to save it under Marcune, it sayd ko in 8, it was tko ONLY!http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/Talk:Fight:34604 [edit] Bimstein Page I "rolled back" your edit to the Whitey Bimstein page because that link to his NJ Boxing Hall of Fame bio that you added was already in his page. --Ric 18:26, 8 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] St Nicholas Arena Fight Why the obsession with this bout? Why can't you just leave well enough alone? --Ric 22:49, 8 June 2007 (CDT) Why did you say obsession? This was a very exciting fight, I have a very rare film. Also there were plans for world heavyweight championship on this day. Marcune was best replacement. January 6 at Madison Square Garden might have been the best day. Argenitian Lausse was 31-0, he was hot, perfect 2nd main event/undercard. Excellent fights! [edit] Weight Classes Click here for the history of the weight classes. --Ric 19:03, 9 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Lineal Heavyweight Champs Per your request, here's the list. --Ric 17:22, 15 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Valuev's Height You told me to change Valuev's height. I won't. That subject has been debated by others more knowledgeable than I am. It has been a point of contention and is not settled, despite what you claim. (Probably Carnera's too, I dunno.) --Ric 19:16, 12 June 2007 (CDT) Cool, let's change what we have, but trust me, valuev is 7'1! [edit] Golota's latest bout You keep changing the text to say "Golota's return bout in two years", when the correct English would be "Golota's first bout in two years".--Matt Tegen 15:26, 14 June 2007 (CDT) No, you are wrong, it's his return bout. He was retired, that is proper English. [edit] Talk Pages Matt is correct when he states that the "Talk" section is not for setting forth opinions, but for making suggestions on how to improve the associated page itself. See here [1] for the main Wikipedia's guidelines on this. --Ric 10:15, 16 June 2007 (CDT) True enough, but did you ask all administrators? I mean boxrec belongs only to boxrec and the owner(s). I mean by talking about weight categories, we improve boxing. You are all wrong!Morefacts 10:32, 16 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Weight Categories I simply can not believe they have so many of those categories, it is pure circus, total bull. Back in the day we had 8 categories. Somebody told me we should have 11, add super middleweight and super welterweight and keep cruiserweight. Look, difference in 2-4 lbs (1.5kgs) is totally ridiculous, it's all about money. Morefacts 10:32, 16 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Adminstrator vs Editor We appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute here. But you are not a Wiki Administrator; Matt is. So, please do not go back and over-ride his edits. This is becoming childish and &*$# So please knock it off. --Ric 11:55, 16 June 2007 (CDT) Dont use these words on me,(i replaced the p word) I requested ONLY that you look into few things, not all my edits- he may be administrator, he may be the owner, you are not always right. OK, I mean, how is anybody to contribute ? Look, it makes no sense to contribute with approach you guys are resenting / And one more thing may be I am somebody who wrote and published articles and attended most of the fights I edit, did you ever think of that? Ah, never mind/Just because you are an administrator does not give you the right to call me p... and so on...Such statements are very hypocritical and not very productive, does not speak well of you. May be that's why only some peopl edit here...Freedom of speech is a gift we all need to respect!~Morefacts 13:30, 16 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Clearing up Confusion I believe we need an article on the boxers who died in the ring, from the beginning of boxing/pugilism. Rocky's opponent and replacement for Marcune sound realistic as there was serious talk about Rocky's final fight in the first week of 1956, Jan 1/1 - 7. It could have been on the 6th, 2nd, 4th in Cleveland, Ohio,(wednesday january 4th,(456) there was rocky castillano fight, double rocky main events could have bee) NY, FL. Any of those places. New York boxing guild dissolved Mid Jan 1956 and things became chaotic. Organizing fight after early January was not practical, as there was too much monkey business going around. Pressure was high too. Attn certian questionable and immoral people I do not want to talk to nor do I want to hear from, ever... if I did not leave a note on your talk page, that does not mean that I want you to leave me controversial talk on my page, as these things are theories and for my own views or views I've heard from others. I love to point them out, not to dwell upon them. They are possibilities which could have happened. Read first before posting stupid messages I do not want to read. Do not trash my talk page and show some respect. Morefacts 15:06, 19 June 2007 (CDT) [edit] Deaths in the Ring These people ought to be remembered, I was told there are at least about 1500 deaths since mid 19th century. I remember when Owen Hart died , they were lowering him in the ring in 1999, I know many wreslters die from pain pills, but not too many die directly as a consequence of the match. Hits in the head bring about most deaths. [edit] Ring Fatalities The (incomplete) "Ring Fatality" list is here. --Ric 19:11, 19 June 2007 (CDT) There are many more, you, boxrec are missing loads of them/most (as usual). I think there are about 15 per year. But its interesting to point out that in wrestling not as many die, but they die from drug overdose, pain killers. One boxer I will always remember, Benny Kid Paret. A promising career that ended too early. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=010925&cat=boxer The General 16:58, 1 October 2007 (CDT) [edit] Fidel LaBarba I just thought I will put this on my talk page, if somebody is interested adding this on the main page, be my guest. It explains his life in two sentences. Short bio: Fidel La Barba, a native of New York City, began his fighting career as a newsboy on a downtown Los Angeles corner. He won several amateur titles and finished his amateur career as an Olympic champion at the Paris games, while he was in high school. He began fighting as a professional in 1925 and took the flyweight title from Frankie Genaro. [edit] POV Use of Names Please, please, stop referring to people by their first names. This is supposed to be an objective boxing encyclopedia. As such, we try to use neutral points of view. Therefore, it is proper to refer to their last names only. --Ric 16:29, 12 October 2007 (CDT) Well, it depands, it may be appropriate. I got you, i thought I should include full name, so first name and full name is not allowed? But you must admit, full name looks better, i think i am right, thus full name. It's not always objective, stuff i find here... The General-Morefacts 16:33, 13 October 2007 (CDT) [edit] Encyclopedia Ric, spelling of encyclopaedia is generally accepted, worldwide, as encyclopedia! [edit] Blanks pages with fight code Please don't create pages with fight code, that have no info in them. You create an open book on the record side of BoxRec, which misleads users into thinking that there is actually more info on the bout, when there is not.--Matt Tegen 15:17, 18 October 2007 (CDT) Ok, so you mean I need to put any info? You should have told me that before. I think, some info is better than nothing...The General-Morefacts 15:19, 18 October 2007 (CDT) [edit] Jackson ratings Its in any papers, he was to be second rated, but barely kept to third rating, Ring Magazine in Feb of 1956 rated Valdez sixth. Baker and Valdez were first and second in January 1956 by NBA and Fred Saddy not by Ring magazine, Saddy, chairman of NBA's ratings confirmed that. I have the files. Well then cite your sources in the text.--Matt Tegen 15:22, 18 October 2007 (CDT) How can i do that, its copyrighted file to upload! Is it allowed to use nicknames like Italian tiger won? its nice to call somebody like that ;) The General-Morefacts 15:23, 18 October 2007 (CDT) [edit] Misspelling of Plurals A common spelling error people make, when indicating a plural word, is to add an apostrophe between the word and the "s." Like CD's or photo's rather than the proper CDs or photos. You did it with the decade of the 1950s. It is not "1950's"--which means something belonging to the singular year of 1950, such as: "It was 1950's best-selling record." (See here for guidance.) Please fix this error in the Clarence Henry page you just edited. --Ric 16:02, 18 October 2007 (CDT) Are you sure ? This is one of those things which are debatablea rguable · contested · disputable · doubtful -You are only partially right Many authors use 1950's for example, it's up to people's styles, for example... Part of the 1950's boom in consumerism included housing. .... During the 1950's, television became the dominant boxin mass media as people brought television into ... kclibrary.nhmccd.edu/decade50.html - 73k The General-Morefacts 16:29, 18 October 2007 (CDT) The linked example you provided just goes to show how rampant this misspelling is. They misspelled the word, plain and simple. The New York Times used to spell it that way until about a year or two ago, when that paper finally came to its senses and realized it was the only prominent publication spelling it that way. The next time you read any paper or book of note, pay attention to how it's written, and you will see that what I have said above is the correct spelling. I am not partially right; I am totally correct. It is NOT a matter of peoples' styles, but of proper spelling. (BTW: I still cringe every time I read the notes at the end of the movie Cinderella Man, when they misspell "1930s"!) Let me put it another way. If, after reading what I have just now written, you are still convinced that it is a matter of personal styles, then feel free to continue using that "style" on your own Web site and personal writings. But in the pages of THIS site, we choose to use the correct spelling, so you are required to follow suit. Thanks in advance. --Ric 17:20, 18 October 2007 (CDT) I am saying it's not wrong either way. 1930's is a date+a wordThe General-Morefacts 17:00, 19 October 2007 (CDT) Are you sure dude? Look, Matt just wrote www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/RTD the way I do it, so what's up?! RTD's. Then correct it yourself. [edit] My edits, etc Once one heavyweight champ said, why do we shake hands of an opponent? He is about to kill you and you are about to kill him, well some courtesy is proper. I contributed here a lot. I could have done more. But time is not always on my side and there is no gratitude...I should edit when I know there is gratitude from top editors! I did not see it. Minor mistakes should not be pointed out, it's so rude! But I am happy with my correct edits! The General-Morefacts 17:58, 19 October 2007 (CDT)
