THE CHESS MANIFESTO by: THE CHESS CHAMP Chess Ideas ========================================= THE LONG, LONG CASTLE + LOTTERY, SINCE 2000 AND FOREVER ! ========================================================== By: The CHESS CHAMP - THE CHESS AMBASSADOR TO THE CHESS UNIVERSE The Lottery + the 0-0-0-0 Castle (aka WCA/RRR) Copyrighted: 8/02 - 2005 - THIS IS NOT A CHESS VARIANT BUT THE WAYY CHESS WAS INTENDED TO BE PLAYED, LONG TIME AGO, THE RIGHT WAY !!! THE TRUE WAY. - Respect my time and all the efforts I pput in this project over time. ( If you want to use any of these ideas, give credit where credit is due, also write me first ) - I am The 1999/2000 Correspondence Chesss Champion of a certain country and 1998 - 2003 the World Correspondence Chess Champion. (in private matches) - Feel free to give this link to others, play it as well ! - Everyone must be aware of this, it's thhe true way to play chess ! ATTENTION: ALL CHESS FEDERATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD AND CHESS LOVERS... Before you say NOOOO to this, think a little, see the games, the links, etc... THIS IS HOT !!! Here's a game to show my point... ( I only used the opening moves ) Capa - Kubiel WICC Internet FIDE (8), 15.10.2001 1. d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 Ne4 3.Bh4 3.c6 4.Nd2 Qa5 5.c3 Nxd2 6.Qxd2 d5 7.f3 Bf5 8.g4 Bg6 9.Nh3 Nd7 10.Bg3 f6 11.Nf4 Bf7 12.Nd3 Bg6 13.e3 e5 14.h4 Bd6 15.h5 Bf7 16.Bh3 h6 17.a3 Qc7 18.0-0-0 or 0-0-0-0... ? Which one would you play ? 0-0-0-0 definitely improves the game !!! - I have many more examples available. Chess lovers... Great position, don't u agree, do you think there should be no restriction on the "a" pawn in the long long castle ? Do you think the "a" pawn should move first or not be in danger before the long long castle is allowed at all ? Let's say first 11 moves. I mean if there is no danger, 0-0-0-0 would be allowed but if let's say the queen can take it, then 0000 would not be allowed, he/she would have to play a3 or a6 first, or do you think there should be no restrictions at all but this way at least the problem of castling remains and that's good, no ?!! But then may be it's just too complicated to understand ? I mean 0-0-0-0 IS THE WAY TO PLAY CHESS !!! 1. The Long, Long Castle, AKA THE WCA Castle works as follows: King goes to B square, Rook goes to C square, so there are 3 castles in existence now. THIS CASTLE WILL CREATE MANY MORE BEAUTIFUL GAMES. AND IT WILL CREATE MORE OPPOSITE SIDE CASTLINGS. This is crucial in chess, this should be accepted by the chess community, HOWEVER FOR THOSE "TRADITIONALISTS" WHO DO NOT WISH TO PLAY THIS CASTLE, ONLY ONE PERSON WILL SAY SO BEFORE THE GAME AND THE OTHER PERSON MUST OBEY HIS/HER WISHES WITHOUT ANY ARGUMENTS... The theory for 0000 if you think there are none, you have another thing coming... You must know chess well if you think 0000 is ok or not, needed or not and it's a great hidden, a great waiting move. But experience it for yourself. 2. Also we propose the first moves should be taken by a lottery, like in checkers, out of first possible moves, the players draw and play on. THIS ELIMINATES SO MANY DRAWS ON THE TOP LEVEL AND MAKES THIS GAME SO MUCH MORE FUN, INTERESTING AND EDUCATIONAL. There are so many unopened doors in chess !!! The same opening could be played by the other opponent in the next round, thus making it even more fair. ( like in checkers ) This is better than FischerRandom and it has more than 860 possible variations, the first three moves. The first 2 moves have even 400 possibilities, of course not all are playable but the rest are OK. encyclopediasupreme.org/Twomoves.txt For more info on MY SYSTEM: encyclopediasupreme.org/Lotrules.txt 3. In the end there are 2 knights left, that should not be a draw, it's a shame it's considered a draw !!! ( sure it's a draw ) That is 6.25 of points of chess for chess' sakes !!! EVEN IF A BRILLIANT COMBINATION WAS CREATED TO OBTAIN SUCH A POSITION THE GAME CAN NOT BE A DRAW, because this is after all a great injustice in chess ( well it should not count for blitz games ONLY, below 15 minutes per game ); And the solution ? Simple, add an extra knight, so that's 3 knights and give the opponent a bishop or a knight and 100 moves and play on until the mate is forced, of course after some break and relaxation to get your strength back... If a mate could be achieved in more moves, then the game must go on OR add a pawn to the opponent and just play on, 2 knights vs a pawn can win, 100 moves rule at least should apply !!! - Also if three knights are left against a rook, one or two knights are thrown out ( providing there are no pawns left at all ) and a knight and 2 bishops remain on the board. ( Swell ideas ) -Also we can add an extra pawn on the fouurth or fifth rank and have the 2 knights play against it and bring forth the victory, instead of 3 knights... It's up to the players... It's rare this will happen but just in case if it happens... You can NEVER be too sure or too confident. ( just like in life ) 4. No draw before the 31st move on any levels, especially the pro levels. It's a shame games finish so early, fans of chess and students don't learn much this way. There should be a 30 move draw on a top level, why ? Because they get paid so damn much and draw in a position that is only mind staggering to some average Joe and Jane... They get paid huge mulla, dough, for what ? Most chess players can't learn a damn thing from those games, that is a crime in a way... Then we have to wait for stupid analysis, I dont care about analysis from other GM's, ( although it's good to see them of course...) I care about some pieces flying off the boards... I also am sick with the Kramnik match, the last game #8 against Fritz, he was cocky, he had some chances there, sure it was a possible draw but you can not play like that, that is a slap in the face to some fans, same with the Junior-Kasparov game #6 and Botvinik Memorial 2001. ( Only that Sicilian game lasted long enough... ) These are only some examples of too many short draws. Most masters can reach a drawn position in 20 moves but can they go and play well from there ? 5. The Rook as a physical figure should be taller than horses ( knights ) and slightly taller than bishops but smaller from the queen, with a good grid, this shows the power of the rook that they are superior from the minor pieces. ( Most of the time ) This also has a psychological effect on the game and even brings different results and outcomes of the games. 6. If it's a drawn game and somebody has 2 seconds on the clock, that should not decide the game, also THE SUDDEN DEATH; WHITE 5 MINS, BLACK 4 MINS, SHOULD NEVER, EVER BE PLAYED, IF PLAYED BLITZ, THERE SHOULD BE 5 MINS + 5 SEC PER MOVE, THIS WAY IT'S VERY UNFAIR. It should remain a blitz standard. For rapid, 30 mins + 5, everything above 60 mins should not be considered rapid but regular time controls. Classical chess. 7. In world championship matches there should be 15 games and if all the games are drawn somebody must play to win at least one but using standard chess time control, no rapid or quick games. That's not how one decides championship. I do think the champ deserves to keep title in the championship if all the games are drawn. ( CHECK MY SOLUTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE #13 ) There will be 11 games in a match + 4 games from Chess Champ's 470 Lottery. (aka Chess468) The eleventh game is so the opponent chooses extra color of his choice during the game but not as the final game, this way the champion retains the right to the draw odds but given an opponent more chances to win. 8a. The World Championship should be every 18 months or so, this way there is a championship every odd and even year, difference is good. Once is April/May ( let's say ) 2003, the next time it's October/Nov. 2004, then A/M 2006, O/N 2007, then A/M 2009, then O/N '10. And in the meantime there will be qualifying cycles, etc... b. The championship matches should last eight hours in duration or more. Possibly 140/40 70/20, 30/SD + 5 per move. Otherwise games should be 120/40 60/20 30/SD + 5 per sec. to avoid the GUILLOTINE FINISH. I mean: e Rook vs Knight or Bishop or positions where you have small chances to win. But you can not win this on time or in a drawn theoretical position. c. NO CHAMPIONSHIP CAN BE DECIDED IN SOME STUPID TIE BREAKERS LIKE BLITZ OR 30 MINS GAMES, PLAY AS LONG SOMEBODY WINS A GAME. IT WILL NOT TAKE FOREVER. LET'S SAY AFTER 10 GAMES ( proper and perfect match number ) THE SCORE IS EVEN, PLAY AS LONG AS IT TAKES. If somebody wins, then one more game, if it's drawn, the match is over. Otherwise this is not a real championship. This does not produce the real champion. Pay attention. d. Blitz and Rapid Championships should be every year. Time controls: Blitz: 5 mins + 5 sec increments, Rapid: 30 mins + 5 sec. 9. Well, there is much more to talk about ( like unions, chess retirement plan, medical insurance I suggested long time ago... but that is not the priority) for now, memorize this and keep it in your heart, tell others... Also the top chess players should not demand so much money to play, some day they may not be on top and will not get anything. We should often play more to attract others, sponsors, etc... Not just on the internet... Chess is growing on the net but not in the real sense, not in reality, not really. On the net it's much easier. Help the community, make others happy. Also if they play much lower rated players, so what, chess is chess, it should not be a big deal if they lose to some unknown, may be that unknown will be a chess king some day, ha ??? Who knows... -Make chess a tool to keep kids off the sstreets, drugs, gangs, violence and all the trouble. Let the game help them with creativity, attention, concentration, problem solving skills. 10. Drug Testing.( what ? ) What drug testing, CHESS IS A MENTAL SPORT, NOT PHYSICAL, ( well... some studies show that top level competition drains lots of calories and tires out the players ) GIVE ME A BREAK MAN... THIS IS EVEN DISREPESPECTFUL, FOR CHESS AND CHECKERS TO GO INTO OLYMPICS, THAT MAY BE A LONG TIME FROM NOW PROBABLY AND DRUG TESTING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GETTING THERE... COME ON NOW... -FIDE LEADERSHIP NEEDS SOME CHANGING ASAPP.. THERE IS ALREADY LOTS OF THE DAMAGE THEY CREATED. I RESPECT FIDE'S PRESIDENT K.I. AS A CHESS SUPPORTER & FOR HIS SUPPORT OF CHESS, THAT'S GREAT BUT HIS STYLE AND WAYS ARE WAY OUT OF LINE AND TRADITION AND SO ON... - THE FIGHTING GOING ON IN CHESS KEEPS THHE SPONSORS AND FANS AWAY. IT'S DO DISRESPECTFUL AND UGLY. I BELIEVE DRUGS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN CHESS, BUT CAFFEINE SHOULD BE ALLOWED. SOME MENTAL AWARENESS DRUGS SHOULD BE BANNED TOO. IF YOU USE PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS, IT'S NOT YOU PLAYING, BUT SOMEBODY ELSE... HERE'S THE DILEMMA: IF YOU ARE NOT ON THOSE DRUGS, HOW GOOD WOULD YOU PLAY THEN ? WILL YOU EVEN REMEMBER THE METHODS AND APPROACH YOU USED TOWARDS THE GAME OR THAT WAS JUST YOUR BRAIN'S IMPULSES AND NERVES PLAYING FOR YOU ? 11. Ladies/Women They must have one member in the GM committee and the GM committee should not only look out for their own interests, for the top 100 players. But for every single player, for that little boy and girl. -The ladies championship should be a prioority as well. I suggest top 64 women slug it out and also meet the champion in the final, of course after a proper break and preparation, playing at a different location is good. -The chess tradition must be kept alive....... 12. GM TITLES and the norms must be increased! Today's kids (just like in every other sport) have a great coaching staff and all the computer help, sponsors, databases, etc... Earning a GM title in the 50's and before compared to today it's just not the same. I say increase the norm by at least half a point for IM and a point for GM. THE GM TITLE MUST BRING SOME RESPECT BACK, OR SOON WE WILL BE HAVING 8 YEAR OLD GM'S IN MULTITUDE. SWARMING AROUND LIKE RABBITS. Remember the original five GM's of the game - In the 1920's ? They deserved it. I ask myself, today's talent, can they compare to them ? A different time, a different era... Reshevsky never had a computer or databases. Imagine if he did... Just an example out of many great GM's and Masters and Experts. GM's are getting younger and younger. Here's a list of some of them: Sergey Karajakin: 12 years, 7 months 0 Magnus Carlsen: 13 years, 3 months, 27 days Bu Xiangzhi: 13 years, 10 months, 13 Teimour Radjabov: 14 years, 0 months, 14 Ruslan Ponomariov: 14 years, 0 months, 17 Etienne Bacrot: 14 years, 2 months, 0 Peter Leko: 14 years, 4 months, 22 Konery Humpy: 15 years, 4 months, 28 Judit Polgar: 15 years, 4 months, 28 Bobby Fischer: 15 years, 6 months, 0 13. The best way of a knock out tournament is 4 games per two days. Not the double elimination tournament, this gives player a second chance. Two games per day. They can fit just right with current time controls. The second chance 'double elimination tournament' can be given with 4 games as well. There will be a second group. Games # to be determined but the finals and semi-finals games must be as sam as in the winner's group. A knockout tournament could consist of double round robin of 8 players or better yet, 16 players, playing each other once. More players, more interesting, more chances for victories. - ALL THESE CHESS IDEAS SHOULD BE THE SOLE FUNDAMENTAL CORE OF CHESS, THE LAWS AND THE ETHICS, THE BEAUTIFUL AESTHETICS. DRAW ODDS SOLUTION/MORE: ------------------------------ - I THINK THE CHAMP SHOULD PLAY IN THE FIINALS AND THE DRAW ODDS SHOULD REMAIN PART OF THE GAME. TEN GAMES IN A MATCH AND IF IT'S TIED, THEN THE LAST 11th GAME, THE OPPONENT CHOOSES THE COLOR, OF COURSE 10 OR 11 DRAWS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR DRAW ODDS IF THERE ARE NOT AT LEAST 2 WINS !!! ) THE CURRENT PROPOSALS FROM THE CHESS WORLD ARE NOT REALLY GOOD. THE TRADITION IS DEAD... (Speaking of the death of the champ... in that case, top top 12 players will play double round robin tournmanet, the winner is the champ) AND THE TOP 20 PLAYES ALSO DESERVE A REAL CHANCE AT THE TITLE. LIFE IS SHORT, LET'S MAKE THE BEST OUT OF IT. PLAY THE GAME RIGHT. SOME PEOPLE SAY DRAW ODDS ARE PRIVELAGE, NO WAY. ONLY IN REUNIFICATION THERE SHOULD BE NO DRAW ODDS, OF COURSE. BUT A MATCH ON THIS LEVEL CAN NOT BE DECIDED BY FAST PLAY IF THE MATCH IS DRAWN, I SAY PLAY, PLAY UNTIL SOMEBODY WINS AND THEN ONE MORE GAME AND IF IT'S DRAWN, THAT IS IT, IF IT'S WON, WHOEVER WINS, GOES INTO THE SUDDEN DEATH. - THIS IS THE BEST WAY. - IN TOURNAMENTS... LIKE LINARES 2003 KRAMNIK DID NOT LOSE ONE SINGLE GAME AND HE AND LEKO WERE TIED FOR THE FIRST PLACE AND LEKO WON ON SOME OLD ELO TIE-BREAKERS... HOW CAN HE WIN THE TOURNAMENT IF KRAMNIK DID NOT LOSE ONE SINGLE GAME... IT'S EITHER TWO PEOPLE SHARE THE FIRST PLACE OR THE ONE WHO LOST LEAST NUMBER OF GAMES OR NONE AT ALL. THERE ARE STILL MANY ESSENTIAL CHANGES WAITING AND NEEDED TO BE MADE IN CHESS. PLAY THIS CASTLE !!! IT GIVES CHESS ITS FINAL TOUCH it seeks and needs !!! -Chess needs all the help it can get and my efforts should be appreciated. There is no time for fighting and fussing my friends. Life is also short. Live your life the right way, as if today was your last day, hey it could be... ( like those stupid internet chess wars, I don't ever bother even reading about none-sense from certain sick and time wasting people, chess war-lords. From all that false crap, we can't benefit and grow, HELLO...) -We should spend it on constructive ideass and things. TO THOSE WHO WILL SUPPORT AND HOLD TO THESE IDEAS, I SAY: GOOD MOVE !!! ...IN REGARDS TO THE LOTTERY... I SAY, LET'S SAY IN A MATCH, HALF OF THE GAMES ARE FREE STYLE AND THE REST IS MY WAY. IT'S THE PERFECT COMBINATION. Finally... If you want something to giggle about: :) -Chess Vs. ( monitors ) 11/2003 ============================================================================ When playing a match, the first 4 games will be played from my 468 Lottery system. Games will be played with 150/45 60/20 30/SD + 10 sec time controls. In order for the champ to retain his title in case of a drawn match, he must play odd number of games. This way an opponent has one more color of his choosing. He/she can not have the color of his/hers choosing in the final game. The champ retains his title when a final outcome is a drawn match. The Lottery games will be played with both colors for the same opening. The starting color of the match of odd # games will look something as follows it only works like this, if there is some other way, imparities are created on both sides. The final 11th game will be played 120/40 SD/90. 11 GAMES MATCH ? --------------------- The purpose of this system is to give challenger chance to win and in case if the champion ties the match, he can claim more rights to the title. The tied match has no winners, the other player becomes vice-champion. The champion remains first among the equals. This system deals with the fact that the opponent can chose, no matter what's the the outcome of the toss for the color of the first game, the challenger will either have extra color of his/her choosing or the color of his/her choosing in the final game. I paid a special attention to the same color in the last two games: #10 and #11, both games can not be either black or white twice. No matter if the champ starts with his color of his choosing or not, the challenger has the right to pick his/hers extra (bonus) color of her/his choice but can not have the same color twice at the end of the match, thus this created many complications and I spent many hours trying to figure out the logical combination. It's easy to start with white, then black, then white... Both players toss for the right to choose the color to start the game with but that does not mean that's the color they want or will have for the last game of the match. Columns deal with the color for the first and last game of the opponent's choosing. For the champion, just reverse the colors. Usually if the opponent wants black in the beginning and black in the end, the champion will not object, but if he/she wants other way around, my system provides the solution. The 6 color system below is the only feasible and logical way to play uneven match, in order that the champion may retain his title if the match is drawn. After the coin toss which will choose the opening color and order of play, it will be played as follows: CHAMPION IS WHITE, ENDS WITH WHITE, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 WHITES: W B W B B B W B W B W CHAMPION IS WHITE, ENDS WITH BLACK, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 WHITE: W B W B W W B W B W B CHAMPION IS WHITE, ENDS WITH WHITE, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 BLACK: W B W B W B W B W B W CHAMPION IS BLACK, ENDS WITH WHITE, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 WHITE: B W B B W B W B W B W CHAMPION IS BLACK, ENDS WITH WHITE, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 BLACK: B W B W B B W B W B W CHAMPION IS BLACK, ENDS WITH BLACK, STARTS FIRST, OPPONENT WANTS 6 WHITE: B W B W B W B W B W B In an even rounded match, extra color of opponent's choosing is not feasible, for example in a match of 14 games, an opponent can not have extra white game, if he/she does then he/she has 8 games of the same color, while the opponent has 6 games of the same color and 8 of the opposite. Therefore a match must consist of odd # of games. The best answer is 11 games match, number 11 is an odd number. No matter what's the outcome of the championship match, at least 10 games must be played (+4 games of champ's 468 lottery) in a 14 rounds match. Total of 15 games, champion retains his title when he reaches 7.5 points. The above is best, less confusing way to play. Other possibilities are: COLUMN I: Challenger's starting colors: Champion (REVERSED COLORS) ------------------------------------------ --------------------------- I. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. + 1. B B B B W W W W 2. W W W B B B B W 3. B B W W W B W B 4. B W B B W W B W 5. W B W W B B W B 6. B W W B W B B W 7. W B B W B W W B 8. B W W B W B B W 9. W B B W B W W B 10. B W W B W B B W 11. W B B W B W W B Column I deals with challenger starting as black, he is 6 times black, but he is white in the last game. Column II needs no explanation, black starts and ends with black pieces. Column III; Challenger starts with black, he has 6 white colors, but final game is with black pieces. Column IV is alternative to Column I, except first 2 games start with black. Column V; Challenger starts with white, he has 6 games as white, but final game is with black. Colum VI; Challenger starts with white, he is white 5 times and white in the end. Column VII; Needs no explanation, challenger starts and ends with white pieces. Column VIII is same as column V, but first starting moves are white (its simpler). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are another possibilities I've been working on, seems complicated but that's how I arrived to logical conclusions thru trials and errors. I am not including the column here, just giving you a general idea how much I worked on this project. Champ's first move: Columns 3 - 6, Challenger has white in the end no matter what color he starts. Column 3: Champ: 6 colors white, 5 colors black; Opponent: 6 black, 5 white Column 4: Champ: 5 colors black, 6 colors white; Opponent: 5 white, 6 black Champ's White Colors: Column 5, 6 Column 5: Champ: 5 colors white, 6 colors black; Opponent: 6 white, 5 black Column 6: Champ: 5 colors black, 6 colors white; Opponent: 5 white, 6 black Colums 1 & 2 belong to the challenger's first move and are most logical.
