WARS AROUND THE WORLD IN 1899, WHAT PEACE ON EARTH ? ================================================= African tribes or nations vs invaders: British against Sierra Leone natives Brits ag Soudan dervishes (Muslim devotees) Brits ag Uganda natives Brits ag Niger territories natives (I am sure, that whore Queen Victoria had more wars around the world, she was no better than the other "peaceful queen" Elizabeth I) Belgium ag Congo Free State natives France ag Algerian tribes on southern frontier France ag Senegal natives Transvaal ag the Makatese Abyssiman Negus ag rebellious Rases Moroco ag border tribes In Asia: Brits ag the Mad Mullah China ag revolutionists in Leinchou China ag revolutionists in Szchuen Province Cores ag the northern rebels Holland ag the Sumatran Achinse In Europe: Albanians in Macedonia and Kosovo (not much change there today...) Central America: Revolution in El Salvador, Cuba South America: Revolutions in Bolivia, in Ecuador Stories of Wars: ------------------ Brits against followers of Mahdi in Africa failed to get them all, hidden in the remote forests, they defied the Brits. Some general Kitchener received plaudits (for what, for killing people? Idiots...) on his reconquest of Khartum and best wishes for conquering all of Sudan. The derivishes captured a pay convoy with 8 soldiers and killed the whole party. At a battle in the Gizirch country 600 dervish soldiers were captured and 2000 women caught as fish in the net by the Brits, who have been taken prisoners to Khartum. Saleh Hamadon, cousin of the Khalifa, was taken by Aboudagl, chief of the friendly Hammars, in the Denka country and after a fight in which some 250 men were killed, 1100 prisoners were taken. Forces under Ahmed Neoil are in retreat in the direction of the Blue Nile, with Anglo-Egyptians and persuit. Khalifa was possibly defeated by another tribesman Makumbo of Jebel Deier. He escaped towards El Obeit with Brits in hot pursuit but did not get him. Before all that Khalifa waged attacks against the so called Anglo-Egyptian forces, he had 30 000+ men under his command and inflicted serious damage to the british. He was never captured, just like with many other chiefs, his faith remains uncertain. Great Rebel chief from Uganda, Kitukswensa, controlled Toro and another named Mwanga, had burned a great part (separately) of Singa, one of the northern provinces of Uganda. They all had amution white men had. Brits were not able to defeat them and lost lots of men. ("Smart" expeditions for Brits and USA, as usual, like in Iraq 2003) Belgium had not succeeded well in the Congo. The Reverand E.V. Sjoblem, an American Baptist missionary said: "The system of trade authorized by the government is simply one of whole-sale robbery, extortion and murder. Native armed sentinels, chosen from the wildest tribes, are placed in the towns to force the people to bring in a rubber. They had orders to shoot any man found in town at the time they should be working rubber." That statement was confirmed by the Swedish explorer Westmark, who said that the native villagers were compelled to work all the time gathering rubber. During one year more than twenty villagers whose inhabitants could not gather the required rubber were wantonly destroyed. Natives who do not work fast enough have their hands chopped off at wrist. This attempt to inaugurate a system of wholesale slavery has led to retaliation by the natives, who are in constant state of revols. And who can blame them ? (same happens in civil war Iraq today, because of invasion which brought 'freedom') France had troubles in Africa too. The native chiefs in Senegal have opposed the French advances. Chief Samory raids the French Ivory Coast, destroys the towns of Kong in Upper Guinea and kills several thousand natives, probably those who associated themselves with brits and french. Attack was the culmination of a quarrel with the french and the latter had to send a punitive expedition against the West African Mahdi. When the Sudanese prophet was caught he was murdered and his body was dismembered and distributed among criminal british officers as souvenirs. When investigated why, they defended themselves saying it was for hygenical purposes. The body was decomposing and it could have caused diseases to spread... Hmm... how come they did not dig up billion of others in the same position ? Hmmmm, similar statements were made in 2003 Illegal Invasion of Iraq by the British and Americans... For more information on this crime and additional adventures of Chief Mahdi, read: www.geocities.com/chesschamproject/Mahdishead.pdf After the defeat of Khalifa and his hordes of 'fanatics' in September of 1899 at Omdurman at present day Sudan, Lord Kitcherner and the British demolished the tomb of Mahdi and as mentioned, exhumed the body. The head was cut off and given to major Gordon. In truth, unfortunately english sentiment was not moved over this barbaric act. Lord Kitcherner claimed by digging up his body, other tribes could be defeated by discouraging them. Lord Cromer also justified it. What an idiot and worse idiots are those who believed him. Major Gordon was was the nephew of general Gordon, whom Mahdi killed when Khartum fell. Other animal officers cut off prophet's fingers for souvenirs. Hopefully they are all still haunted to this day and all those who keep the parts. In Sloane's museum in London there were many similar disgusting relics of the campaigns, including the skeletons and heads of several chiefs of Mahdi's army. Museum denies keeping the head, major Gordon refused to say what he did with the head. The rest of Mahdi's dismembered body was thrown into Nile. Lord Sallsbury's government under lousy queen Victoria did not care much about this as well. Gordon claimed he wanted to present the head to the Royal college of Surgeons. Hmmm... why not the whole body then ? This treatment campaign against Sudan and Sepoys was not the first or the last time. They liked their style. Chief Samory was a West African chieftain who for 16 years has been the most dangerous the Europeans have had to deal with. After more than a decade of guerrilla warfare he was driven out of the Sudan, but he made a swoop upon the fertile region of Kong, a dependencey of the French Ivory company. In August 1896 his forces surprised and routed a detachment of french troops sent to occupy territory which, it is said, Samory had offered to vacate. Their leader Samory was encountered at Tiafesses against the french and at many other places from 1882 until 1898 when he was caught. He was later caught and probably executed in 1900. The battle resulted in capture of 30 000 prisoners (probably old folks). The native revolt in the Transvaal under M'pefu, chief of the Makatese has been suppressed and under general Joubert the Boers have captured their hitherto stronghold. Other African Kings dethroned by France were: Toffa, Samory, Ahmadou, Britanzin and that was only achieved after fierce battles with loss of life on both sides. Samory, the celebrated African King died in captivity in the middle of June 1900. He was a prisoner in the French Congo at Njole with his son. I do not know what happened to his son. May be somebody knows more info on this article ? The official cause of death was pneumonia, but I suspect foul play was involved... This makes no sense, attack the country with the sword and then send christian missionaries to spread their faith and message of peace and love and brotherhood to those they conquered. They were messed up people like that all thru history. May be they wished well, but timing was bad. And missionaries like Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Hartzell of Cincinnati, methodist episcopal bishop in Africa even took his wife with him to accompany him on missions. It was reported he was invited 'cordially' to open new missions. In Abyssinia, tough King Menciek, who defeated the Italians had trouble with his own generals. Ras Nangascia, governror of Tigre, who in the war with Italy showed himself the ablest of the Vegus Generals, became a rebel himself and wanted to be a King. In China, another Tai-ping (but less blood, in this one over 20 000 000 people died, may be even 30 million claiming they are fighting for God and for peace on earth) rebellion was raging. Kuang Tung insurgents have been joined by large, well armed forces from Canton and Macaos. On their flags inscriptions read: "Clear out the traitors who surround the throne." In another part of China, under the leadership of Yuh Man Tol. His mission was to expell all the foreigners and their traditions. He claimed they wanted to partition the empire. He even promised deliverence and to have Japanese indemnity repaired. They killed people, rendered homes and have destroyed over 5 000 000 taels' worth of property. Dutch's wars with Achinese, in the norther part of the Sumatra island lasted for more than 30 years (off and on I presume) costed more than 100 000 lives, chiefly of natives. They are Malays, descendants of the Malay pirates, good fighters and have never been conquered by the French. French attacked for many yeras, just to retreat. Albanians in Macedonia was no picnic either... Macedonia under Turkish rule was the scene of constant turmoil. Bands of Albanians which have been making constant raids into Serbia, have been attacked, in response, by local Serbs but with little success. The Serbians were did not copwe well with them. Turkey had a rebellion on its hands in Arabia. Fighting was reported in Yemen. The Turkish troops have suffered defeat between Hodeida and Sana. The evil Ottoman empire was about to fall forever !!! Revolutionists in Bolivia had proclaimed a federation. Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, attempted coalition between the three and that was responsible for the revolution in Salvador. Niger territories, which by a charter issued in 1886 were governed by the Royal Nigger Company was under British 'protection,' it was scene of much fighting. Emperor of Sokoto, suzerain over the Kings of the Niger region, after some bloodshed and diplomacy gave the Royal Nigger company sovereign power over his district. Oguashi, Onitza, Alona and Ibu, local leaders, remained defiant (as they should have been) and natives made frequent human sacrifices. (At least, the arrival of the white men stopped these idiotic and barbaric cults, just like in Central America in 1530's, (St. Juan Diego). Bai Bureh, refused to pay taxes to the Brits, he fought and had some success against the Brits. Encouraged by this success other tribal leaders of the Timamani tribes revolted and insurrection spread to the Mendi tribes in the south where they were helped by secret societies with which that part of Africa was honeycombed. At Rotifunk and and other places white missionaries (nobody invited them) and traders were massacred, about 1500 of them and many were cooked and eaten. (fresh meat, at least they were not wasted, except for their bones, skulls) Later on many chiefs were captured and they were sent to Free Town for murder trials. (I wonder if they even knew they did something wrong) Bai Bureh, the leader of the natives in Sierra Leone has sent the word to the "Big People" to intercede with the governor to stop attacks against him. He said that he was too old to live much longer and his people were too young to died. Now he and his people wished to live at peace with their mother, the Queen (bitch) of England. This raising of the white feather did not please some of the other chiefs and Major Bourka had about a dozen to subdue before some peace was restored. The Brits had a considerable loss in troops. The colonialism was nothing but barbaric and talk about the peace in the world... that was not a way to spread Christianity, I doubt Jesus used sword in his preaching. He healed the ear of the guard who was about to arrest him, when Peter chopped off his ear. They failed to teach by kindness, by example. By understanding of their culture and tradition. As John Paul II said: "Spreading Christianity must be in accordance with and respect of other people's customs, ways, culture, traditions..." All the colonies by the occupiers crumbled over time and they were kicked out (Zimbabwe's white farmers in 2002 is the recent example and why not) and the wars in Africa continue today, in part, because of those invasions which planted seed of hatred with different tribes, those who helped the illegal invaders and those who were against them fueled the insurgency (just like in Iraq) and those who did not finish the job left the continet in disarray and disrepair. Similar situation happened in India, Pakistan, Kashimir, also under the british control. I believer Kashimir should become am independent nation, in order to bring lasting peace. The beginning of the 20th century was not promising and it turned out to be true. I do not claim that many of these Africans and especially those who were killed are saints and that they were angels, it's possible many of them were slave traders and had no respect even for their own kind, some I am sure were good folks, defending their lands from the crusaders and invaders. Of course, for the slave trade which exists even today in 2005, for those destroyed, I have no pity. But the invaders never kept track of that as well. Same with 2003 illegal Iraq invasion, they secured the oil fields, but museums and places of culture were virtually destroyed and robbed. Not to mention other atrocities which occured. Historical accuracy was given to this article. ------------------------------------ American-Philippines War (1899-1913) In March of 1902, american terrorist general Frederick Funston of Kansas and Philippines-American war leader had total disregard for Filipino lifes. The war brought nothing but misery and death to countless Filipinos. In a brutal and barbaric manner, he said: "We are informed that Major Waller (another criminal), one of the 'bravest' and best officers in the US army is to be court-martialed because he shot some natives who 'stole' the food from his 'starving men.' If that is true, I say, 'bully for Waller' I am glad he did it. Two negro soldiers deserted (they had to, as they were not treated right) our army and for a time served in the insurgent army. They were caught and hanged (without trial). It would have been more of an act of justice had we hanged some of the people who signed the recent petition to Congress asking that we confer with the Filipino leaders in an effort to secure peace. In the one case two ignorant beings were executed, while in the other people more guilty than they and in possession of their senses were allowed to go free." In this war America lost at least 4400 military people, that's until 1902 when the war 'officially ended', but it surely lost over 5000 before 1913, when the war was truly over, more or less. On September 6th 1901, an anarchist Leon Czolgosz shot the President who died 8 days later from his wounds. Czolgosz said he killed the President because he started the war in Philippines and was enemey of the good working people, so true! Idiots who say war is just & necessary are lowly hypocrites, damned neo conservatives, not coming of, for, from, to peace! By: Chess Champ 11/11/2005, All Rights Reserved!
